Not Coming Home

Not Coming Home

I never thought to say goodbye.
I think I’ve missed my chance
To hug you just that one last time,
To let you know just what you meant.
And now when it’s already too late
It’s these moments when I wish
I could’ve just had a bit more time.

This shouldn’t have to be goodbye for us,
But in the end I know that it must.
‘Cause in the end, the tearful end,
You won’t be coming home.

My head is reeling
With all these regrets of yesterday
Of all those times I let life get in the way.
Now I can’t go back,
And I’ve let you fall down to your knees,
Though it were your finger on the trigger,
Some blame still rests with me.

This shouldn’t have to be goodbye for us,
But in the end I know that it must.
‘Cause in the end, the tearful end,
You won’t be coming home.

Maybe if I hadn’t let us fall away,
There would be no reason
For me to cry today.
And I don’t want to say goodbye,
But it’s all there’s left to say,
Rest in peace, my dear friend
We may yet meet again someday.

This shouldn’t have to be goodbye for us,
But in the end I know that it must.
‘Cause in the end, the tearful end,
You won’t be coming home.

With all my love,
Job
